NEXT TRIP SCHEDULED TO DEPART NOV. 23

Last November's trip iwas cancelled due to the political situation in Honduras, and an advisory from CRWRC and the Canadian and American governments warning against any unnecessary travel to Honduras. There was some initial discussion of sending a team to Honduras in April 2010 but most participants indicated that November would be a much better time for them to travel.

Honduras shocked by military coup

Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, who was planning a referendum to amend the country's constitution and allow him to seek another term as president, was outsted by the Honduran military on June 28. The proposed referendum had been ruled 'illegal' by the Honduran Supreme Court, but Zeyela was insisting that the vote would proceed.

Steve and Jordan Fox leave for Honduras

Carpenteros Steve and Jordan Fox leave for Honduras on Saturday, June 27.  Steve will be working for 10 days to distribute nutritional supplements to malnurished children.  His youngest son, Jordan, will be staying in Honduras for the next 5 months, volunteering on a variety of projects including micro-credit, agriculture and housing projects.

With financial support from The Carpenteros, Matt and Katie De Kam are currently serving with CRWRC in Honduras.  Matt is assisting with a 'moringa tree project'to investigate how the leaves of this tree can be used to feed pigs.  He is also helping to explore the feasibility of exporting Honduran coffee to Canada.
